Topic: 3Com nic cannot switch to half duplex in sme?

Hi All

Today I was installing a SME 5.0 and found a weird problem, when the LAN nic is directly connected to another machine via crossover cable, everything works ok, but if I connect it to a 10mbit Hub stop working at all, only pings works, but nothing else.
I try every thing in what I can think of, and finally figure it out, the board was settled in full duplex, so I boot with a dos diskette, ran 3comxcfg and set the nic to HALF DUPLEX.
all seems ok, the board accept the changes but the SME sets the nic in full duplex!.

is there any place to force the nic configuration to half duplex in sme?.

I solve it now by switching the nics (LAN<->WAN) (different brand nics)

The nic with this problem is the 3Com 905 Tx-B (10/100)

any idea of how to set this configuration manually ?

Use the mii-tool, if it's not installed download it from rpmfind. redhat 7.0 or 7.1 version

Hi Lars Stea and group.

I've been out for a while , downloaded and install the package that
you mentioned, and when run mii-tool it says:

eth0: 100Mbit,  full duplex,  no link
eth1: 100Mbit,  full duplex,  link ok.

set both to half duplex, and no change in eth0 (LAN), (eth1 is connected to DSL)

why it says no link!!!, that's odd!
I'm using right now the box and there is link in both boards, but they aren't
exactly the same:

ej one is 3c905tx-B and the other is 3c905tx-C  could be that the mii-tool
only work with one of these boards and not with the other??.

any ideas?, eth0 still in full duplex ( , I would consider to switch them
but i would like a software solution .

BTW: have you tried the hdparm(?, I set the following for my IDE HD and
now my box is flying, amazing transfer speeds!.
try (back up first, just in case : hdparm -X66 -d1 -u1 -m16 -c3 /dev/hda

(need good hardware for it to work .
