freeswan-0.4 uninstall
« on: November 15, 2002, 07:12:49 AM »
Dear Darrel,

I have a SME 5.1.2 with an permanent internet conection with a wireless subscriber using  pppoe. After I install freeswan-0.4 on my SME 5.1.2, the internet  conection start to fail 4 o 5 times a day. The technicall dept of my internet provider told me that acording their logs my subscriber is being disconected from my ethernet card (like a miss contact from the rj45 plug). I already changed the ethernet card and the cable, but the problem still hapening. The question is how I can unistall the freeswan-0.4 service?. I am not saying that freeswan is the problem but i have to discart all the posibilities before I ask the isp provider to change the subscriber!

I will appreciate your help

Thank you

rpm -e freeswan-x.xxx
'-e' = delete

But I don't think that's your freeswan problem...
Have you check your pppoe files at /etc ??
Let me check with my friend first, he has the same problem before...

Good luck Marcos

pppoe will add extra overhead to each packet during tranfer and os may sometime treated them as fragments. It cause the disconnection from your card. It is nothing to do with new lan card or cable.
pppoe is simple but it is not design for long time reliable connection.
try upgrade the SME 5.5's rp-pppoe-2.6.5 to rp-pppoe-3.5.1

good luck Marcos

Marcos,
if you sure your isp is not sending reset signal to cause the disconnection (isp may do that for couple 10 hours by sending PADT to reset), have check with the /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf CONNECT TIMEOUT = 0. It will keep connect if disconnect without wait.
if you using 3com, upgrade the firmware. it is a known bug to 3com.
good luck.

Thank you very much for your advices. I tried to uninstall freeswan but the system told me that this rpm was not istalled! If I take a look to the server-manager I can see the item IPSEC VPN under SECURITY menu, son I don´t understand what´s happening.... Anyway I done /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf CONNECT TIMEOUT = 0.
Now the situation was improved, but we still having some "cuts" per week. I will wait for SME 5.6 to upgrade my system.

Thank you again

Marcos
