The APCUPSD software runs quite nicely at shutting down after a predetermined time or when the UPS reaches a certain discharge level etc and even restarting the server when mains power returns.
Select a SMART UPS and you get better control & statistics etc.

See
http://myezserver.com/downloads/mitel/contrib/apcupsd-3.8.2/

Also v 3.8.5 is available.
You can also control Windows workstations on the LAN that are connected to the same UPS, see
http://www.sibbald.com/apcupsd/

Powstad is also another choice and has been integrated to work with e-smith see the HOWTO at
http://www.e-smith.org/docs/howto/contrib/UPSHOWTO.txt
although it is a bit old now.
There are updated rpms available from the e-smith contrib site at
ftp://ftp.e-smith.com/pub/e-smith/contrib/CharlieBrady/RPMS/noarch/
e-smith-powstatd-0.1.0-01.noarch.rpm
and
ftp://ftp.e-smith.com/pub/e-smith/contrib/CharlieBrady/RPMS/i386-RH7.0/
powstatd-1.4.1-1.i386.rpm

I believe the latest rpms for powstad now work on v5.5 although I have not tried it yet, hopefully this wekend.

There have also been a couple of other suggestions in these forums, do a search.
eg powerd

Hope this helps
