Usb Alcatel adsl problems
« on: November 17, 2002, 04:06:20 PM »
Hello, I've got myself a new provider and have the usb adsl modem. I'm trieng to get it working with e-smith 5.5

I've followed the howto on http://www.hgs.co.uk/sme/alcatel/ but it doesn't  work. I can't find any logfiles so it's hard to find where the problem lies.

I don't see any errors while following the howto so I assume the the compilation of the drivers worked. Reloading the usb and n_hdlc (what's it for?) seem to be working and when I run the "modem_run" binarie the lights on the modem start flashing.
When I trie to launch the connection with "pppd call adsl" nothing seems to happen at all.

Can someone give me a hint about what's wrong?

TIA

Hi,

I had the same problems with my USB Alcaltel SpeedTouch modem.

Then, I realized that my scripts didn't work. So do not copy and paste scripts found on the Net. Just write yours from them or be careful of "returns" keys in it.

A good url ( but in french ) :

http://membres.lycos.fr/bazimon//speedtouch.html

( do not copy and paste, it won't work )

Good luck

I have a tar file that I created that modifies all the right things to get SpeedTouch working. But because this file modifies the e-smith console program it will only work with 5.12. I have a BETA console for 5.5 but don't blame me if your system goes pair shaped. Still testing.

Aquired some server space of a mate and I have put the files there.

Please read the readme.txt

NOTE: the console program is still in BETA so take care.

Any suggestions or if you can turn it into a RPM I would be gratefull to here from you.

Today I found out that the modem is not the 'normal' alcatel modem but the 'thomson' version. Their both named on alcatel's website, is there a difference between those two? Maybe the microcode is different?
