Yes, I know even b4 I ask the question I will be flamed, burned and turned over a roaring fire on a large spit, but, I am going to ask anyway.

I know also that this is against the entire principal of e-smith being secure :-)

OK, (Steeping back), How can I allow access to the admin control panel from anywhere (Yes anywhere--<::Ducking::>) on the internet.

Flame me if you must but answer the question as well :-)

Thanks (In shame)

Jules

I would enable SSH and set it for Public (you will find this in the remote access portion of the manager).  Then, (assuming you are using a Windows machine) keep a copy of Putty with you, which you can run off a floppy.  Log in as "admin" and you will see the familar console that you will see when you are sitting at the machine.  An option in that is to access the manager with a text mode browser.  This will bring up a text version of the web manager you use locally.  While not as pretty, it will be much faster and have a tiny bandwith absorbtion which is always a plus when doing remote admin.

I use this procedure quite often to remote admin my personal server.  So much, in fact, that I use this same procedure even when I am local.

P.S. Putty is a freeware download.  Just do a search on Google and I am sure you will find a place to get it from.

I'm fairly sure that you can vpn into your network and point the browser to the  e-smith-manger without any problems. I've done it before, it's just been a while ago.
