Radius-authentification on wirelesslan.
« on: December 04, 2002, 11:35:51 PM »
Hello everyone,
I'm running SME-server 5.5Upd2 and this summer we installed wireless accespoints for the laptops. To limit acces so only known users can connect I was wondering if any one has any experience with radius-authentification or if there is anything else that can do the job?
Squidproxy can prevent users from accessing the Internet but not from access to the accesspoint right? So when a user tries to connect I want the accesspoint to contact the SME-server (w. radius) to authentificate.
Thanks Enrico.
PS! There has been a few posts on this before but no one seems to get a qualified answer e. g.:

hi,

I installed on my SME server & gateway a news server (inn) and now i'd like to authorize connections on my server with login/passwd.

Somebody spoken to me about radius server, but I don't understand hows it works exactly... Does somebody already done this, or knows hos to do it ?

thanks,

Rico"

Doesn't your AP software have a MAC Address filter?

Isn't that what the radius-server can do? Filter by MAC, IP or username?
I can point out a radius-server ( SME-server ) witch the AP connect to when trying to authentificate the connecting user - but the config must be on the server right?

Interesting topic...am playing with AP's myself and was already thinking what Radius (and Syslog) were about...
