Strange Problem...Possible firewalls deleted...

This is extremely strange...and the only explanation i can think of is possibly hacked...

I was sitting here on my machine (WinXP) surfing the net fine, then when i clicked the next link/refreshed the page it had just dropped out...the net wouldn't work at all...now ive tracked the problem to have come from this as ive been trying to reset all of my adsl config settings etc to see if their the problem...now when i run adsl-setup and it asks for the type of firewall:

The firewall choices are:
0 - NONE: This script will not set any firewall rules.  You are responsible
for ensuring the security of your machine.  You are STRONGLY
recommended to use some kind of firewall rules.
1 - STANDALONE: Appropriate for a basic stand-alone web-surfing workstation
2 - MASQUERADE: Appropriate for a machine acting as an Internet gateway
                for a LAN
>>> Choose a type of firewall (0-2):

If i enter 1 or 2 then i get an error like this:
/usr/sbin/adsl-connect: /etc/ppp/firewall-standalone: No such file or directory

now, how could these firewalls possibly have been deleted?!!!
the only way i can get on is by choosing 0...so when i finish this im going to take it down seeings as theres no firewall up...

any idea's? also, where could i quickly grab these from...are they simply sitting on the installation CD, or theyd be all tarballed up wouldn't they?
btw, its SME 5.1.2

Thanks.

We don't use "adsl-connect". None of that should ever have worked; SME Server
uses its own firewall rules, not the sample configurations that come with
the Roaring Penguin pppoe client we use.

To start and stop pppoe, you should use "/etc/init.d/pppoe start" and
"/etc/init.d/pppoe stop". Unfortunately, adsl-setup may have clobbered
some of your configuration. You should go through the console configuration
screens once more to make sure everything is correct.

Dear Leigh
Your sme server is acting as a firewall if you select server/gateway when installing. No need to configure your adsl modem for firewall rules etc. Your dropped connection is due to something else.
The choice NONE would be most appropriate for the adsl modem setup, as you are letting your sme server be the firewall. Commonly, the adsl modem is set for a Bridged connection. All your Win XP workstations etc use the server to access the internet so are protected by the servers built in firewall, which does not need to be configured.

You sound a bit unsure about things, you should read about sme server see
http://www.e-smith.org/faq.php3
http://www.e-smith.org/faq.php3#6q1
http://www.e-smith.org/docs/
http://www.e-smith.org/docs/papers/smeserver-security.html
and also read the user manual which is on the CD in documentation.

ok, thanks heaps guys. After a bit of playing around, /etc/rc.d/pppoe start and stop work now..they were timing out which was due to the adsl-setup conflicting...i reconfigured it thru the console and tried the commands again and they worked....
