Typically you press F10 to access the BIOS on Proliants.

I have SME on a Proliant 1600 and had the same issue when I upgraded to 5.1.2.

When SME installs it removes the Compaq Utilities Partition. You will need to find a Compaq Smart Start CD and use that to boot into the BIOS. You may be able to use a utility from the Compaq Support site but I think the CD would be the best bet. You may have to disconnect the hard drives the get the Smart Start CD to boot. Once it has booted and you fix the boot order reconnect the hard drives and give the upgrade another shot.

I have a 1600 and it boots the SME 5.5 CD just fine. I would try a different CD-Rom drive and see if that changes. I would also try burning the ISO on a 650MB CD as not all CD-Rom's can read the higher capacity disks.

As far as keeping the Compaq diagnostics partition, I went through the same issues and determined that it was MUCH more convenient to access diagnostics with SmartStart.

The latest raid configuration utilites are ONLY available on the SmartStart CD anyhow.
