I think, you can try this:
set (in tcp ip properties) obtain an ip address automatically, to make your win2k search a dhcp server in the lan.
...But you should point manually to the ip address of your "preferred" dns server (192.168.1.1 if default config of e-smith) to enable your logon process resolve the ip addres of your domain, after that you should change the network id and domain in "my computer" properties dialog to match your e-smith domain name.
If all is ok, you will be prompted to reboot and you will be able to do the next logon in your domain.
