Viewing Hylafax queues via a web browser
« on: December 29, 2002, 02:46:04 AM »
Hi Folks,

I'm in the middle of trying to get Hylafax up and running but I have a few  requests for info for those of you who do.    :-)

1.)  Does anyone have their Hylafax setup so that you can view the queues via a web browser?  I know there are a couple of perl scripts out there....FAXSTAT.PL and WEBVIEW but I haven't been able to get them to work on SME, does anyone have something working for them?

2.) To get a Perl script to work, should I only have to put it in a /cgi-bin directory or what is the exact process?

3.) Has anyone tried and or is using the SMBFAX method of sending faxes?  URL:  http://inconnu.isu.edu/~ink/new/projects/smbfax/

Thanks as always,

Craig

WHFC is transparently simple to set up on Windows workstations and works beautifully.

I tried Cypheus and SMBFAX in that order. Both are *very* poorly documented [and I don't mean quantity of words]. I have simply never managed to get Cypheus to work at all. SMBFAX worked but it apparently decided, without my aid or permission, to send 101 copies of every outgoing fax. Dropped it like a hot brick.

Try WHFC, it's a little crude and has a very weird default sort for the incoming fax lists, but it works exactly as it says it will.

One further point for which I have no valid explanation. Preventing Hylafax from squishing outgoing faxes so that they are virtually unreadable at certain types of receiving system when sent from Zoom/Hayes modems, is very difficult in all versions of SME, up to and including 5.5. The problem simply does not occur in 5.6. go figure!

Thanks for the assistance Ed,

I got my Hylafax Server up and running...........in receive mode.  I used the instructions found at   www.chaloner.ca and after a bit of mucking around it's operational.  Thanks to Hale, I think his name is, for putting it together.

After much research and searching I came across this site:   http://www.thorin.de/faxcl/index_en.html .  It has a nice little client for Hylafax.  I haven't fully figured it out yet but it quickly lets me see the received queue and I think also the sent queue once I get that part working. If nothing else it's great for testing so I can tell what's passing through Hylafax.......or NOT!

It says on the website  "High integrated in all application that are able to print."   I haven't figured that part of it out yet but if it is the case, sounds good???

Thanks all for now,

Craig
