passwords and username HELP!!!
« on: January 06, 2003, 12:22:04 AM »
Hi there people
a few days ago I asked the question of how do I keep the usernames and passwords syncronised or import export to allow two servers to be kept upto date
Please can somebody give me some insight as I am completely stuck.
Also can you restrict Ibay access at a folder or file level.
ie Ibay has top level folder everone has access to and a variety of folders beneath which various individuals need access to but no others on an individual basis.
Can I do tthis with 5.5 or do I have to change the structure

thanks for your help

User/password stuff is easiest if you set the systems to be Domain Controllers (DC) then its all transparently syncronized in the background.

One caveat is that if you nominate both systems as a DC they will both argue over being the Primary (DC's are either Primary or Secondary).  Should not give any probs unless you are using logon scripts where you need to make sure each server has an exact replica of the scripts on the other.

.. I was of course assuming that one of the boxes was an NT server; if the boxes are both SME then they don't argue as long as Samba is setup correctly on both

So if I have all the useraccounts set up on the nt server, and I add an SME server as a DC, the battle will be won by the SME server? Will nt server and SME server exchange account information so that I can make an ibay and assign it to a group that exists on the nt server so that all users belonging to that group have access?
