No IMAP access
« on: January 11, 2003, 05:57:02 PM »
I have lost my access via IMAP to my mailserver. I am connected from a defined local/private netværk. I use netscape 7 and gets the response:

"Could not connect to mailserver Connection was refused".

Alle the users get that response. There have been no cahnges set to the mailclients.

I have been over al of the parameters but i can't find any errors. I have tried with the POP and IMAP server acces set to private and public with no difference. The webmail app works ok..

Does anyone have a clou to what is wrong?

I'm afraid that I don't have a clue as to the answer but I am getting the same thing. The only assistance I can offer is that I have tried both Outlook and Netscape 7 and get the same error.

I have been working on this problem now for a couple of days and thought I'd put a couple of findings up to see if they gave anyone any clues.

1. While I can't access email via IMAP from the private portion of the network, I connect immediately from my XP box at home using Outlook.

2. I come back to the private network and retry using the same account on a Win2K box with outlook or Netscape and no go.

3. I have used NMap on the server and it says that port 143 (IMAP2) is open on both interfaces.

Any ideas?

Hi,

maybe this is not the point but I have seen that netscape 7 seems to have problems when trying to open IMAP on SME 5.5... I have XP on my inside network too and Outlook can see IMAP but netscape 7 can't....
I uninstalled Netscape 7 and reinstalled Netscape 6.2 and this can do IMAP on my SME 5.5 without any problems...

MAybe this helps...

Thanks for the feedback René, do you have any Win2K boxes using Outlook on your private NW that can use IMAP?

René,  thanks for the tip, I'll give Outlook Express a try to try to narrow down the problem. Have you tried Outlook (the full version) on Win2K with IMAP?

Hi Rob,

as a matter of fact is dislike MS products in general but we are all glued to them somehow arent we... I don't use MS Office so I haven't tried the "full" Outlook on IMAP with SME 5.5 yet... I have tried Opera 7 beta 2 tho but it seems to have several other problems with IMAP on SME 5.5 (display problems).
Outlook Expres does a good IMAP job for me, altho it creates non standard folders when IMAP is configured for the first time and it doesn't accept to store sent items in IMAP folders, but thats maybe all you can expect from Outlook Express. If you want to stay with a client with few customizing, the w2k-pre-installed outlook express is a nice way to easily access IMAP, but it definitaly is not the most elegant way :-D

Did you experience similar problems with netscape7 and IMAP? Tell me your experiences, maybe they help making my upgrade plans to netscape 7 on the XP machine smoother :-D

Hope this helps, CU rené

René,

Yes I am having similar issues with Netscape 7 where it returns a "Could not connect to mailserver Connection was refused" error. I haven't had a chance to try Outlook Express yet - I will let you know how it goes as that may show it to be a client issue.

What are your IMAP settings in Outlook Express - esp what do you have as your "Root folder path"?

Hi Rob,

I have no special settings configured for IMAP on outlook express.
My root folder for IMAP setting is empty,
and thats all. I configured it in a few seconds, no special settings
required.... maybe i am lucky lol :D

René,

I have setup Outlook Express now and (finally) attached. It all seems so easy when it finally happens. I will now review the settings for Outlook and Netscape. I seem to remember that the root folder had a path in it. Maybe that's the issue! I will let you know.

Thanks for your help,

Rob

Sorry to bring this back up, but for some reason between two mail get's, I get the connection refused on IMAP.

SME V5.6

Funny thing is, I can see the mail but still get that conn refuse.
Goes both on IMAP and Webmail, it won't log on the user, on pop3 it works fine, and the user is logged on as it should.
(Full access to the printer and the Ibays granted for that user)

This goes for all users on the system, only pop3 works on mail  :-x

It drives me nuts, think I better get a  :pint:
