3Ware 6410 RAID with SME 5.6
« on: January 16, 2003, 04:33:19 AM »
Can anybody advise if the 3Ware 6410 RAID card is supported in SME 5.6 or should I be downloading & using the v6.9 BIOS, drivers & 3DM software from 3Ware ? (I will be creating a RAID 1 mirror on 2 x 40GB drives)

Thanks

James

AFAIK, all 3ware raid cards will work out of the box on SME 5.6. There is a "generic" driver that seems to work fine.

Having said that, however, if you want to use the web administration software from 3ware (3dm), you may be in trouble. The first problem is that you will need to manually install it (their script file doesn't understand the SME's runlevel 7). Secondly, their 3dm app either won't work at all, or won't work properly unless it is paired with the same level of driver and firmware. Since there is no info on what driver version is included with SME 5.6, you are into a guessing game, and while I've attempted to do this, I have not been successful. (Using 3ware's drivers requires you to compile from source, and that too has been disappointing in the past)

But I've found that the controller works so well, and so reliably, that I can safely do without the 3dm.

Hi,

I'm sorry to interupt your tread. This is for all of you who have a 3ware 7000 series controller, there is an linux command line utility CLI which contains most of the functions of the 3dm utility. I have installed and used this utility successfully with e-smith 5.1.2 5.5 and 5.6beta7

However it does not work with the 6000 series.

I install already two servers one with 6400 card and  other with a 7000.  Both ran perfect.  Also the Intel and National Semi Gigabit card worked perfect
