VPN SME 5.6 Bug ?
« on: January 21, 2003, 12:34:51 PM »
Dear all,

I don't know if I need to consider the following issue as a bug or as a wrong manipulation :

At work location, we are using SME 55 as VPN server.

At home, I have two ( test ) systems, running as ADSL gateway.
The first test system is SME 55, the second one SME 56 (Dev. Rel.).

If I try to connect the 'work location' VPN server from my W2K station, trough the SME 55,
there is no problem.

If I do the same trough the SME 56, the connection is made, It works a bit, after some time it
hangs ( even a ping don't work anymore ). The connection 'status' remains OK.

If I disconnect and reconnect, same ( It works 2 - 3 minutes ... )

If I go back to SME 5.5, works perfectly.

Ideas ?

Thanks for your answers, Phil

I too have had problems with this, and the symptoms are similar. May I ask if you did a clean install or upgrade to get to 5.6? I have a topic open also in the general discussion forum.

...

It is a fresh install onto a 2nd harddisk on the same PC as the 5.5 ( test home ).

Thanks for the info. Having done the upgrade from 5.5 I thought that some of my settings had not carried over correctly, or that one of the rpm's I had installed was conflicting. I do not have any resolution or suggestion at this time, I will be fiddling with it later.

Cheers

I will proceed, I just wanted to avoid sending wrong / not accurate information to bugs@e-smith.com.

As far as I can see, we are at least 4 users with same problem ( also see ' Herve ' report ), so it sounds effectively buggy ...

Tnx, Phil

Sounds like the problems we're having.

It's an SME 5.6 with XP clients trying to PPTP in from remote locations.  We're getting GRE errors (discarding for incorrect call) intermitently which causes pings to return unanwered.  If there are too many GRE errors the connection degrades rapidly and disconnects.

This only happens with 5.6.

Could this truly be a bug?  I'm recording simultaneous tcpdumps from the server and the client to later have analyzed.

If anyone can offer help I would appreciate it!
