5.6 and NetMeeting
« on: January 25, 2003, 01:25:57 AM »
Could someone clarify the use of tools like NetMeeting under 5.6? I'm aware that there is no H.323 support in the 2.4 kernel at this point, but I'm unclear of the implications of this.

My normal use of NetMeeting (which I use to communicate with family members in the UK) is to connect to an ILS server, or to an IP, after the other party has connected, thus getting past the NAT issues, and using audio and video during the session. How does the 2.4 kernel impact this?

Thanks,

Since I upgraded to 5.6 from 5.5 incoming voice on netmeeting seems to have stopped working. I hope there is a way that I can get it back soon as I use it for the same reason as you.

I am having the same probs now. In e-smith 5.6 support voor h323 etc has been removed or something.
It isn't supported by the kernel, and you will have to load some NAT-modules. here is more info on patching the kernel with the modules
http://roeder.goe.net/~koepi/newnat.html

I am trying this. but are running into kernel panics.
I am using the same kernel version as the installed kernel and loaded the standard kernel config provided by e-smith and it still gives me kernel panics. very nice.

good luck

Alternatively, you might try using iVisit (http://www.ivisit.com/) instead of NetMeeting. Its a workalike but video and audio goes through e-smith "like butter".

Unless you really need the shared whiteboard of course :)

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I assume it's required at both ends (i.e. it's not NetMeeting compatible and can be dropped in as a replacement)?

Correct, it uses it's own protocols... or at least, not netmeetings.
