Topic: some how to stop auto internet connection

For some time now I have been using Smoothwall and found it good, but I wanted more.It i great in that it can be set for a password to dial in to the internet. ( it stops the kids). How can I set this up on e-smith.

hi,

in answer, probably not easily. it's fairly easily accomplished on 'normal' linux installations, but e-smiths template system would be getting in your way here. my advice here would be to search freshmeat (www.freshmeat.net) for a suitable package ... but installing from a normal rpm can get tricky, as redhat and e-smith differ in where they put their files. by way of suggestion, i've found that masqdial (http://w3.cpwright.com/mserver/) is one of the nicer implementations of this sort of thing, easy to set up and easy to use, though i've never tried it on e-smith.

The template system should "get in the way" much. The most that you need to do is to create /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/etc/blah instead of /etc/blah, then run the command "/sbin/e-smith/expand-template /etc/blah". Now that wasn't too difficult, was it?

That isn't correct. e-smith and redhat put their files in the same places - nearly all the files in an e-smith system come straight out of RedHat built RPMs.

We'd be very happy to have such a contribution, I'm sure.
