That's weird, but the same thing just happened to me too.
I posted to the forum and the post does appear to have got there, but I also received the message below.

Dear All

I posted this question a few days ago on the General forum but no
answers.Apologies for posting again but perhaps an Experienced forum
reader
knows the answer ?

I see that an update 3 has been released for sme v5.5.

ftp://ftp.e-smith.org/pub/e-smith/updates/5.5/Update3/RPMS/

The only rpm changes I notice are

SMEServer-5.5_Update3-03.noarch.rpm

xinetd-2.3.7-4.7x.i386.rpm

Does anyone know what the update covers and is it essential to be
applied
to
a production server ??

Thanks

Ray Mitchell

Do you receive the forums via email, if so then I think what is happening is that the message is being sent to you, but your server is bouncing it for some reason and instead of bouncing it back to lists.e-smith.org it is bouncing it back to whomever posted the message?

Its just annoying having a bounce message appear every time I post a message :-)

Is anyone else experiancing this problem when they post a message?

I've been posting to these forums for a while now and never seen anything like this before, but I too received the same message. A quick search of the forums shows that ncollins is Neal Collins and he has posted a couple of items. But why are we getting his bounces???

Cyrus

I don't receive the forum by email.
I read the forums directly and post messages directly although I always tick the box to send replies to this thread to my email address.

I have received the ""bounces"" ??!!) at the email address I quote when I post a message.

I have just received 2 more of these messages sent to the (my) email address quoted in my forum posts, following some posts today, as follows:

Your message

Subject: [e-smith Experienced User] Re: Phorum Bounce?!?! hih.com.au
invalid disk structure?

was not delivered to:

  ncollins@hih.com.au

because:

Error delivering to MELNOTES01/HIH mail\ncollins; This database
cannot be read due to an invalid on disk structure

Something wrong with the e-smith forum machine ???

I think its is his email server bouncing the posts back to us because when the phorum sends out a post it puts in you email address as the return to.

So because when I post I have my email address filled in at the top, between Your Name: and Subject , Phorum puts that as the return to.

Now when comnotes.hih.com.au bounces it, for the error message (which poses more questions) "Error delivering to MELNOTES01/HIH mail\ncollins; This database cannot be read due to an invalid on disk structure" it bounces it back to the Return To: which is our emails that phorum has filled in.

So I dont think this is a phorum problem, its a problem with his mail server.

Hmmmm I might try emailing him a copy of this "bounce" to see if he can forward it on to his systems admin to have a look at, hopefully fix the problem, or maybe he is already aware of the problem and not seen these posts because he is trying to fix the problem, I hope.....  :-)

I too am receiving these "bounces".

Is it possible that due to HIH being in liquidation, that all user accounts have been deactivated as the administrator dissolves the company. I would suspect they probably don't even have a systems administrator.

Just a suggestion.

It's a severely broken mail system at the remote site.

- It doesn't respect the message envelope (so mailing lists won't work reliably)
- It tries to do delivery and bounces based on the message headers
- It doesn't respect the Reply-To: header:
  > Reply-To: phorum_advanced-owner@lists.e-smith.org
- This is just plain wrong

Please contact Postmaster@e-smith.com for problems such as these. Each
post to this thread generated more bounces discussing the bounces...

(More correctly, contact the list admin, who is
phorum_advanced-owner@lists.e-smith.org but they are one and the same)

The only fix we can do is to remove that address from the phorum lists, which
we have done. The proper fix is to fix the remote mail system so that it works correctly.

I have also contacted Postmaster@hih.com.au to inform them of the problem

BTW there are still a few of us hanging on here at HIH... :)
