win XP & 98 registry patches for v5.6 ??
« on: February 08, 2003, 04:14:53 PM »
Dear All

In /home/e-smith/files/server-resources/regedit, I see the registry patch for Win XP winxplogon.reg, but I also see a patch apparently for Windows 98 win98pwdcache.reg

Can anyone confirm what these are for and why they are needed.
I assume they are recommended/obligatory patches ?

I see no mention at all in any documentation of the Win 98 registry patch although in the release notes for v5.6 at
http://www.e-smith.org/article.php3&mode=threaded&order=0
reference is made to:
Windows XP requires an interoperability patch if domain logins are used. This patch is made available via the web server, via the URL "http://servername/server-resources/".

See also http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=16317.msg63072#msg63072
but there was no information here about what these are for, only problem using them.
I just copied the files to my workstation and double clicked on them to update the registry.
Thanks & Regards

In w2K require sign or seal is disabled by default - XP is enabled by default - the reg mod turms it off

The 98 mod looks like it switches off password caching - I think this stops someone "saving" the password to say an i-bay or the server-manager page and forces them to enter the password each time.

Thanks for the information Rob.
Sounds like the XP mod is essential and the W98 mod is a good idea
