Topic: Itex chipset for ADSL modems, Telecom NZ, PPPOA and SME Serv

hey everyone,
I'm wanting to get an Itex chipset ADSL Modem running on my PC. It needs to run over PPPOA and connect to Telecom NZ's Jetstream Service.

I hope someone can help me!

I'm using a TurboComm IA310 ADSL modem.

Wow, it was easier than I thought - I'm still in shock  

pre-config your router w/login & password (I did this from an XP box)


Setup SME as server & gateway (dedicated),  choose the ADSL nic for external network ethernet driver, I chose DHCP (send account name as client identifier) for the external config, and provide DHCP to local network, and accepted defaults for pretty much the rest. Server re-booted, and the 'test internet access' was sucessful. Jumped on to one of the 12 XP boxes connected to the server and fired up the web browser and away it went

This tested OK for me from SME,  but one of the XP boxes lost the server so I thought it had failed somehow. That box seemed to lose its connection (would be the first one I jumped on!!)

I don't have a router, I just have a simple ADSL Modem.

What should i do to preconfigure it?

I doubt that will be worth the effort. As I understand it, Itex has gone out of business, and they did not release the source code to their driver. There is only a binary kernel module which may not be compatible with the current kernel version. Even if you managed to get it working with the current version, you may soon be up the creek without a paddle. Do you have other options?

The only other real option is to use another OS, but that is not what i want to do, nor would i know where to start....

Can't I use a generic driver or something with my itex chipset, and stay with SME Server?
