Just to find out, has anyone install the http://www.star-support.com/downloads/mitel/contrib/spamassasin/5.6/sme-spamassassin.tgz on SME 5.5U2.

yes, there is thread on the dev forum about it.

You need to use --nodeps to get the RPMs to install,

and the server-manager panel is broken.

There is some investigations going on, but slowly!!

I had no issue installing this on SME 5.6. The server-manager panel works fine and I did not have an issue with installing the RPMs.

I have installed this package on V5.6 without any problems and set it up in server manager, but for some reason it is not stopping any spam. Is there anything else I need to do to get it working?.

Download the user-manager from here:

   http://myezserver.com/downloads/mitel/contrib/user-manager/

and install it with...

                rpm -Uvh e-smith-userpanel-pkg-0.0.1-1.noarch.rpm

Then log onto your Server manager and you will find a couple of new items in the menu. Under 'Security' at the top of the menu will be 'User Panel Access'. Choose this and a new window will open with a list of all your users and the ability
to allow them access to a control panel of their own. When you click a
user name, or the global entry which allows all users the access you
chose, you will get a new window with a long list of items to be included
in the user control panel. About three-quarters of the way down the list
is the item 'userpanel-procmail'. put a tick in its box and save the
result with the 'modify' button at the bottom.

Now change the address at the top of the browser window to...

    https://domain.com/user-manager
 
Where domain.com is your server's domain name or, as I did, use the IP
address of your server...

   https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/user-manager.

You will be asjked for a username and password and these should be the
name of one of your users and his logon password. Once you enter these you
will get to a cut down version of the server manager and one of the items
in the menu will be 'Forward Mail'. Choose this and you will get a
dialogue with a pull-down list that allows you to change from 'Deliver
mail locally' to 'Use procmail to deliver mail.' choose this and save.

If you've enabled SpamAssasin in its own control panel in the Server
manager it will now work!!!

Any recommendations as to which e-smith SpamAssassin Tar/gzip to use?  I've seen at least 2:

http://www.leiinc.com/repository/Linux/Mitel_SME_Server/Beta/Spamassassin/
and
http://www.star-support.com/downloads/mitel/contrib/spamassasin/5.6/

Both of them mention installing the user panel first.  I'm not sure about any others.

Just an add on to my last question.

I assume the user panel mentioned is the one located at:
http://www.myezserver.com/ in  /contribs/dmay/mitel/contrib/user-manager/.

Is there an easy way to know which are the latest contribs?

u need to follow the instructions found in the forum for installing the
user-panel which you can download on myezserver.com
i just downloaded the contribs there, don't know if those are the latest.
but i guess they are.

spamassassin works very good here

Latest contribs usually can be found at contribs.org but only if the author has posted them there.

In the Spam Assassin panel in the Server Manager is  a setting that allows you to simply mark the mail as spam but still allow it to get through. You need to do this for a little while as some wanted mail will get marked and will need to be whitelisted while some complete crap will fail to get marked and will need to be blacklisted. Once you have satisfied yourself that sorting is working properly you can change the setting 'Sort Spam to "junkmail" folder:' to 'yes' and you won't see it any more.

I'd recommend that you run with the 'high' sensitivity setting during these tests. On my server it never seems to wrongly call posts spam and it catches all but a very few rogue mails.

Once you've begun junking you'll need to set up a cron job to delete it from time to time or you'll fill your server up. The alternative, and much the better way is simply to leave the system set to mark spam and sort it all to the deleted items folder folder in your mail reader.

does spamassasin have a mechanism to update its own rule base ? or will i have to watch for updates ?
