Changing raid controllers on a raid 5 array on compaq prolia

Hi,
This may seem quite an off topic place to ask this, but compaq are coming up with less than nothing.  I've got 4 e-smith installs running on raid 5 hardware arrays on compaq smart comtrollers inside some ml350's.  Just wondering if anyone has any info on what would happen if one of the raid controllers went down - would i be able to reconstrust the array with a new raid controller (would this still be possible if it was a different, a beit a newer compaq controller?)  The reason i ask is that the a colleage of mine has had some problems in the past with compaq raid controllers & rebuilding the raid array after switching raid controllers.  Hope someone outthere knows something on this , or can point me in the right direction (already hit the newsgroups & google.)

Regards & thanks.

Bill

My experience with Compaq Raid controllers is mostly in a windows environment but a raid controller itself is part of the array. After replacing the raid controller, it rebuilds itself on the fly, with no utilities needed.
This has been my experience, your mileage may vary

You should be able to change controllers (surrely the Smart 2/p and 2DH) without problem as long as drive positions do not change.

I have done this quite a number of times.
