We are trying to build an Office-in-a-box solution, and want to use X terms for access to an SME 5.5 box.

I find the docs/faq confusing me as to what version of RH sits underneath, 7.1 or 7.3?

I am struggling to set this up due to failed dependencies so has anyone here tried it/got it working?

Hi,

Mitel SME is not suited for your goals, for X is not installed. Search these forums for more info and reports on difficulties of trying to get X installed.

Mitel SME is a router/gateway with some additional functionality. That does not include X, better try another distro.

http://k12ltsp.org/contents.html  - Might be helpful.  I would suggest putting it together with SME.  (2 Machines - The SME Router/Gateway and the K12 LTSP Machine as the "Application" Server.)  K12LTSP does have some basic firewalling/routing built in, but SME is much more robust for as your network "anchor".  k12LTSP could then share out your apps.

I've done this in a test environment. Worked perfectly. Takes about 15-20 mins to set up. Used crappy old p100's with no hdd's as thin clients.

And what about to:
a) Have just one password to SME AND K12LTSP?
b) Mount /home dirs of SME to X thin clients?

Have you done this?

If YES for both questions, could you PLEASE write a How To?

Thanks!

Sorry...haven't done either one of those. K12LTSP can authenticate from LDAP/PAM, so that would be my guess as where to start with the password thing. Perhaps SME can be modified to use LDAP too?

Mounting SME home directories and i-bays on a K12LTSP thin client can be done with mount -t smbfs...etc, but I assume you mean automatically mounting a users SME /home when they login to K12LTSP? Not sure exactly how to do that, but it seems like it should be possible.

If someone has accomplished this I'd love to hear how to as well.

I have used LTSP and can say i was most amazed with it! starting an old P100 with NIC (pxe) was just a dream!

Unfortunalty though when the pc is turned off the session is ended -obviuos and thats why I dont use it anymore. I use VNC then even when the session is ended I can pick the session up again on a different pc.

With the K12LTSP though it was even possible to install VMWARE and I was running W2K on it as well :-))

Well I do like to try these sort of things ;-)

Cheers
