Windows XP asking for new user passwords
« on: March 08, 2003, 12:55:37 PM »
Hi,

We are using Windows XP with a SME NT domain.  Roaming profiles, and NT domain server options are set on the SME

We found that some users are asking to use a new password at the end of the month and others are not.

Does SME have the capability to get a user to type in a new password periodically or is it an XP issue?

Thanks for any help

In the Computer Management panel under XP (I found it in Start-> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management) under local users and groups you can select an user, and by its properties you can select if an password can expire. There is also an option , forgive me but I can find it at this moment, where you can set the expiration time, it also has to be there somewhere).

Don't know if this will help, but have a search in XP Help for "Local Security Settings" and "Group Policy". You should be able to control all the password policies through these.
