ntop replacement app?

Howdy yall,

Just wondering if anyone has heard of linuxprobe

http://www.objectplanet.com/Probe/

From site:
This free network monitor and protocol analyzer gives you an instant picture of the traffic situation on your network and enables you to monitor network traffic in real time, hunt down, identify, and isolate traffic problems and congestions on your network.

All traffic is monitored in real time and presented to the user as a combination of tables and charts, giving detailed information about hosts and protocols, as well as an instant overview of the traffic situation on your network.

All the information can be searched, sorted, and filtered by protocols, hosts, conversations, and network interfaces. With the click of a button you can see individual usage of specific protocols, how much traffic each user generates, and which sites on the Internet they have visited.

I have downloaded the windows version of this app and it looks really great, and there is a "linux" version but I wouldnt have the foggiest on where to start to see if it is compatible with SME.

If it all works like it supposed to then this is definatly a ntop replacement!

Thanks for the suggestion. I just installed netprobe (in addition to the required Java JRE from Sun [1.4.1 at that]) and this tool works great.

Yes, I grabbed the 1.4.1 JRE from Sun (the RPM.bin; you have to run the .bin to perform the click-through license agreement) and the emailed link from the netprobe people. Running the application discloses the URL to access the interface. Very nice application.

Where do I get 1.4.1 JRE, Sun's website? How do you install a bin file, do you just run it like a normal rpm, rpm -Uvh *.bin ??

Thanks,

Ok got the netprobe-0.4.tar file and went and found JRE j2re-1_4_1_02-linux-i586-rpm.bin and downloaded all 22MB of it :-)

Now how do I install a rpm.bin file, Do I install it just like any other rpm file,  rpm -Uvh j2re-1_4_1_02-linux-i586-rpm.bin  ??

Thanks

Oh and how do we get it to start automatically on boot, in the installation instructions it says to start it by typying ./netprobe start eth0 so do we need to edit a template somewhere to add this into the SME version of windoh's startup, which I do not know the name of or where it is :-)
