Topic: Internal NewsGroup Server

Howdy yall,

I was entertaining the idea of running a newsgroup server, but I do NOT want it to get ANY newsgroups from ANY server.

I just want the internal people here at work to be able to use it to report issues with the IT to me.

I see at contribs.org that there are 3 different apps that do this, but I havent got the foggiest on if what I want to do is possible and how hard it would be to install these programs?

Anyone care to enlighten me a bit please?

Ok I want a newgroup server that is only accessable to clients on my internal LAN no external access, and I do NOT want it to download any newsgroups from any server, making it a closed server for internal LAN clients only.

Does that make sence?

Why newsgroups and not the private accessed phorum or bulletin board type of collaboration software?  What exactly news server will give you in addition to them?

Everyone here uses outlook express for their email client so instead of them having to open up a browser and then type it in and click on submitt, and then go back there at later stages of the day to check on their post, they can just simple and easily use OE to post to a newsgroup, where they can see whether their post has been addressed or not when they check their email.

The bulk of poeple just leave it open and I have it set to check every 10 mins or so. In the end it will be freindlier to the users and they will be more inclined to use it rather than phorum or anothe BB type system.
