Hi!
I use e-smith 4.1.2. I read that the optimization might cause file corruption or boot-up problems, so I have hesitated to set in On. Using an old Pentium 75 MHz with 48 Mb memory and using the web mail a lot, I got frustrated with the slow performance, so I overlooked my fear, made a backup and turned the optimization on.
10 minutes after reboot I thought the machine was messed up, as you warned, since it was "dead". Well, I had something else to do at the moment, so I just left it booting. To my surprise, after 42 (!) minutes there was disk activity, and the booting continued normally! Now the machine works like a charm, with faster uploading of web mail pages.
Could it be that some cases of "boot failures" have been due to lack of patience?
Thank you, e-smith, for a good piece of software!
Regards
Lars
