Topic: Using mod_rewrite

From what I can see, the configuration of Apache is quite different between 5.1.2 and 5.6. I want to add a mod_rewrite routine to my httpd.conf. With the dynamic configuration of the virtual hosts in the templates, this doesn't appear to be a trivial exercise.

Is there a How-to or guidelines for extending the functions of httpd.conf that someone can share?
