HylaFAX (tm) Version 4.1.5

I used Mr May's How-to to install dmc-mitel-hylafax-pkg-4.1.5-1.noarch.rpm and just about everything is working fine. All except that it's not emailing me PDF's of the recieved faxes. A search of /var/spool/hylafax/recvq shows that I am indeed recieving the faxes in question in tiff format. I can copy them to a public folder from there in order to view them. I set up faxmaster as a pseudonym for my account on the SME box and have all mail forwarded from the SME box to another mail server. When using webmail locally nothing shows up and nothing is getting forwarded to my other mail server.

I then tried to configure the settings with putty using the suggestion from the how-to

# /sbin/e-smith/config setprop hylafax FileType pdf/tif/ps
# /sbin/e-smith/config setprop hylafax SendTo user/pseudonym
# /sbin/e-smith/config setprop hylafax TTY ttySx

# /sbin/e-smith/signal-event hylafax-update

Still to no avail as the faxes are still showing up as tiffs in the recvq.

I must be missing something simple but I cannot find it.Here is a copy of the last log .... any help in this matter would be GREATLY appreciated. The only other package I have installed is e-smith-PDF-printer found at contribs.org under nightspirit and that is working admirably.

I believe the recvq will always have tiff files no matter how you wish them received. If you want them as pdf files, they are converted and sent on via email as received.

Try removing the faxmaster pseudonym and create a faxmaster user or group. It should work as a pseudonym, but lets go through a process of problem isolation and reduction.

Chaloner Hale

Of course these lines;

# /sbin/e-smith/config setprop hylafax FileType pdf/tif/ps
# /sbin/e-smith/config setprop hylafax SendTo user/pseudonym
# /sbin/e-smith/config setprop hylafax TTY ttySx

Should probably read;

# /sbin/e-smith/config setprop hylafax FileType pdf
# /sbin/e-smith/config setprop hylafax SendTo faxmaster
# /sbin/e-smith/config setprop hylafax TTY ttyS0

Thanks for the reply,

I had already tried making faxmaster a user however forgot to mention that in my previous post. Yesterday I removed the pseudonym and created a group account with the name of "faxmaster". I then tried faxing to the box and again I recieved that faxes just fine on the SME box however nothing was emailed to me. I thought I'd try and use the user approach (creating a faxmaster user and simply forwarding the mail) however when I try and delete the group account I get this error:

User accounts
Operation status report

Error: the account "faxmaster" can't be created because there is already a group-deleted account of that name.

so then I try to recreate the group and get

Group Name

Error: the group "faxmaster" can't be created because there is already a group-deleted account of that name.

and the same goes for pseudonym.

Also, I did make sure my syntax was correct when I was entering the commands for setting up pdf,user, and TTY options but thanks for the heads up and just to be sure I went through it again.

# /sbin/e-smith/config setprop hylafax FileType pdf
# /sbin/e-smith/config setprop hylafax SendTo faxmaster
# /sbin/e-smith/config setprop hylafax TTY ttyS0

anyway, I'm still at a loss as to how to fix this and now I need to figure out how to get that error to stop coming up so I can build the account again.

Any help given would be greatly appreciated.

ok ... Once I deleted the group account and rebuilt a user account for faxmaster it's working fine. Problem solved.

Thanks for the help Chaloner Hale
