Grub installation on E-smith.

My question is this.... would installing grub on the e-smith box screw anything up that is e-smith specific?

I have another e-smith box up and running on a HP vectra VL 5/133 . The problem is that I only get the L at the lilo prompt (1st stage loaded) but no numerical error code to help debug the problem further. Booting from the floppy makes this box work (which is fine with me). Keeping bootdisks would be a perfectly acceptable thing for this boxes pupose. This is purely a kink I would like to work out for myself.

Just for grins I decided to trash E-Smith and try out mandrake. It gives you the option of grub or lilo. I tried lilo first and achieved the same results- no boot, floppy OK. I then tried grub and it works as advertised.

I'm going to give it a shot and see, since it is not a production box as of yet. lilo lists have indicated that lilo hardware compatibility is at about 75% of the boxen out there. Grub's coverage is less but apparently covers some of the hardware that lilo doesn't.
