Data throughput

Does anyone know if there is a way to determine the amount of triffic that has traveled throughmy internet connection? If I do an ifconfig it gives me this info, but obviously when the connection gets dropped, so does this info.
I have a 3 gig cap on my line, so this is why I need this info.

SME 5.6 with ADSL router connected to LAN interface.

Thanks
Steven

Thanks for the links guys, unfortunatly, as far as I can see, this also hav the limitation of when the machine restarts it starts over at 0k.
I guess what I need is some sort of logging, but this will help non the less.

Thanks

Why not try Input Output grapher.

There's a great how-to at:
