Hi ,

I have a cable modem at home , but to connect to the server I have to put in a username and password to access the net which on my present windows 2000 server is done by a software provided by my service provider. How do I get e-smith to do it for me ?
What should I put in as my default gateway when e-smith askes for it.
Please help.

Use custom, the username and the password which your ISP gave to you.
Gateway; do nothing.

Where could I find the custom menu ? I couldn't find it while doing external interface configutration where it asks me the type of connection to select , it only had 4 of them , 2 DHCP , 1 PPP and the last one Static IP , I couldn't find any custom there , please help.

and thanx a lot for your time and effort.

Use DHCP with user name as the identifier.  That should do it.  Cable internet providers either use a name or the ethernet MAC address to identify the user.  The name is the most common.

You didn't get a password to go along with your user name?  As far as I know, you should have.  Maybe check with your provider to see what they use.

If you're using a service like Telstra Bigpond, you may require a special client to perform the authorisation. In the case of Telstra it's a BIDS2 deamon called bpalogin.

A search around either this bboard or the net in general should hopefully set you straight.
