Sadly, I'm faced with taking down a customer's SME server configured for dial out access which has performed flawlessly for the past 2 years.  The customer has decided to go with dial return satellite internet through Bell Expressvu. Dial return means the server has to have a phone line PPP connection to an ISP, through which Internet requests are sent to Bell's (DirecPC's) NOC, and Internet information is then sent down from the satellite at about 300-400kbps. The system uses a USB modem to receive data.  Bell only provides drivers for Windows. Has anyone attempted to configure such a service for SME server? If so, I'd love to hear about it and avoid switching this customer over to Windows.

Good Afternoon,

Not totally being familiar with USB modems and the likes, you might want to look at IPCOP. I believe during the setup it asks about USB modem support. I'm looking at doing it as well but without using the phone line as my uplink. I do know there has been some discussion on the phorum about this very thing and I believe there are a couple of how-tos out there as well. I believe the how-to talked about having to recompile the kernel and everything. I hope this helps and good luck. Would like to hear your conclusion to the matter.
