Topic: Blasted heartbeat on cable problem!

It's quite some time since I used e-smith on Telstra's (Australia) cable.
I used Synoptics howto and I get connected OK but every 7 minutes I get disconnected waiting for the heartbeat.

It doesn't matter what number (from 0 up) I put in the settings. I think maybe I need to open a port or something but I can't remember what to do. Can sopmeone please help me?

Hi AJ,

Version 1.3x is less prone to the problem than version 2. However, it still does happen even with version 1.3x. Some hardware router manufacturers also incorporated the bpalogin 2 into their router firmware with similar outcomes (SMC Barricade is a good example).

However, the disconnection due to the heartbeat timing out occurs randomly. Sometimes it runs well for days on end, sometimes you get the problem continuously for the whole day, etc.

The best you can hope for is to use Version 1.3x and pray for a good run. I should know, I've put up with it for as long as I've had Bigpond Cable.
