I just configured it on a 500mhz with an ECS (unknown model-- that is the problem with ebay) at "385,000" of memory (3x256mb - integrated graphics - who knows?). The reason I purchased the machine, was because it was a great way of buying a top-of-the-line power supply and 1U case. I figured I would rip out the mboard and start all over-- but due to budget problems, we might be keeping it.
The story--
I bought the machine, as described above, and a 80gb Maxtor with special 8mb cache (too bad the EIDE-133 is slowed to 66 with the mboard!). Installed Red Hat linux a few times-- each accidentally leaving out GNOME or MySQL or something essential. So I find SME-server and it looks good. But it is AMAZINGLY slow (I can see somebody using that abridged on the advertising -- "it is AMAZING..."). Besides the HTML interface, which I have seen some complaints on this board, I have not actual progressed to the point where I have transfered my website. It uses PHP-nuke, so it might require a decent amount of resources. But I assumed that Linux is naturally amazing, and so robust that it should not slow the server?? Is SME-server right for the job, and how do I complete a simple task in the remote interface in a respectable amount of time? I am used to using Cpanel and other interfaces, so I hoped SME-server would be fine. And what about upgrading to new versions of mySQL and PHP remotely? This server will be colocated.
Or should I just install Red Hat for the 6th time, and add Webmin?
Sorry for the long rant.
