XP Home - Home Directory Mapping - HELP !
« on: June 20, 2003, 06:08:16 PM »
Hi Guys,

Could do with some help here pretty quick - finish today
for 2 weeks and cant seem to crack this before I can go !!!

Am using a local netlogon.bat which works fine for everything but mapping the users home drive to H:

Complains that the users home directory has not been specified. Googled about for the last hour and scoured this forum but cant seem to find much about this ?

I am guessing that its a reg hack but most pages say "Dont use XP home" - its not my fault :(

1 hour left . . .any help really appreciated !!!

Here is what I use to map the home directories

net use h: /home - on 5.5  and /homes on 5.6

Hope it works for you.

Think actually its 5.1.2 - dont want to disturb it right now as the uptime is just coming up to nine months !!!

In the end I used a batch file to map the public folders and used "Map Network Drive" to map the home folder visible in "My Network Places"

Are you saying that the version of Samba that comes with 5.5 / 5.6 can do that
no probs ?

All the other machines are 98se which work fine.

Some components of 5.1.2 have known remote vulnerabilities, and Mitel is no longer providing support updates (and I haven't noticed anyone else doing so in their place). You'd be unwise not to upgrade.

On my windows 2000 pc I use in the login script:
net use h: \servername\homes.

Many thanks for the tips.

As its a private server only I am not too worried about the security
aspects - unless there is something eles I ought to be worried about ?

Would 5.1.2 upgrade easily to 5.6 for example or would I have to do
a clean install / reconfig ?

You should be able to upgrade easily.  There is another thread where someone upgraded from 5.12 to 5.6 with no issues.

YMMV
