Topic: Erratic restore with flexbackup. HELP!

Hello !
This flexbackup is driving me raving mad...
I finally suceeded in having backup functionals, but i have quite a strange issue :
(My purpose is to generate a tape to clone several sme 5.5 servers..)
I have installed sme 5.5, plus numerous rpms, added various directories in the e-smith templates, generated them and everything works fine.
I therefore backup the server with the control-panel in dump mode, norewind and with the /all option.
Up to there, everything goes fine.
I generate a new server from bulk with the 5.5 cd, then perform a restore :
mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind
mt -f /dev/snt0 fsf 1
flexbackup -extract

When the resore is finished, I see that my server has the right user accounts, ibays, paswwords, etc... but everything else I installed is put in a /root/flexbackup directory, and not at it's original place... so my restore is useless...

Helllp! This darned thing is getting me crazy...
What do I have to do to restore things at their correct places ????

Any help should be greatly appreciated as I have to begin my installs wednesday morning and am still completely stuck..

At the risk of being known as "that guy who uses Norton Ghost for everything" may I suggest that you forget about restoring from tape and just take  a hard drive containing your finished SME install and Ghost however many copies you need?  Norton SystemWorks containing Ghost is inexpensive & widely available.

I'd love to use nortpn ghost, but the fact is that the servers I have to clone have no floppy controllers, nor any cd, but they have tapes. So the only way for me to clone them is to use tapes...

you can actually get around that limitation by using THREE hard drives ... one bootable and with the Norton Ghost executable on it, one source drive containing your fully-configured SME install, and one target drive which will stay in the computer.   As long as you have physical access & can open the case ... where there's a will, there's a way.
