Hallo!

I have used e-smith server alot for data, and wanted to look at the email. so I installed 5.6.

I can recieve mail using multidrop works very good. But I cannot send mail.
the mail gets to the server and just stays there.

I had  one error saying that the host could not be found - so i opened up e-smith server in putty and did a dig web.de
I found the server no problem, so it cant really be a dns issue....

My server is attached throuh the network to a ethernet dsl modem, and is installed server only. I will be using it later also as firewall, but would like to get the mail sorted first.

I sent mails to other accounts too , and thea are not getting there - not leaving my server.
I would be most pleased if someone could put me on the right track.

Thanks a bunch

But this suggests that it *is* a DNS issue:

Well that is exactly what I thought - so I logged onto the sme server and did a "dig web.de" and voila it gave me the infos for web.de.

Dont get me wrong, if it is a DNS issue then its a Bug!, otherwise I shouldnt be able to use DIG.......
Funny enough, I dont get any errors for the other mails (to other adresses) they are not leaving the server.

Will just say my setup again :

Ethernet Router 10.0.0.138 (DNS, Static IP)
SME Server 10.0.0.1

As I am writing this I seem to remember something funny. On the server-manager page, there is a summary. There I saw that the DNS Server was 10.0.0.1 although, I have told the server to use 10.0.0.138  (Dig still works..)
Where can I tell SME Server to use a different DNS Server? Maybe this will sort out my probs.

Hi!
Yes I have - at first I tried to use my providers smtp server, but I have to log in there first, so I changed so that my server sends the mail.

I have now sent 2 mails to different addresses : (qmail/current)

400000003f019b9c103884ec info msg 415597: bytes 1324 from qp 1868 uid 401
@400000003f019b9c1215342c starting delivery 11: msg 415597 to remote calumfield@web.de
@400000003f019b9c12155b3c status: local 0/10 remote 3/20
@400000003f019b9c121566f4 starting delivery 12: msg 415597 to remote calumfield@gmx.de
@400000003f019b9c121572ac status: local 0/10 remote 4/20

after the mails were sent i checked mail log analysis and recieved this :

Report generated: Tue Jul 1 16:37:59 2003
Reasons for failure

One line per reason for delivery failure. Information on each line:
* del is the number of deliveries that ended for this reason.
* xdelay is the total xdelay on those deliveries.

del  xdelay  reason
  1   76.88  205.158.62.24 does not like recipient./Remote host said: 550 : inactive user/Giving up on 205.158.62.24./
  8    6.02  Connected to 212.227.15.105 but sender was rejected./Remote host said: 530 Authentication required/

End of Report
So am I right in thinking that they do not like my static ip address?
If so then I have a problem, because to use the smtp server of puretec I get the message, that Authentication is required !

How the hell can I send mails ??

any help would be appreciated
