As I discussed in another thread, I am trying to burn a clean install disk on a Mac OSX machine using Roxio Toast Titanium and if it works, will post something in case anyone else is interested.....
....nope, same problem. The install dies with:
Error mounting hdc as 'mnt/cdrom': Read-only file system.
Previously, there is a warning that there may not be enough space to do the install, something like I need 515 MB for the boot partition. (I don't recall the exact wording).
I am really getting tired of this - I just spent 90 bucks to download Toast Titanium in the belief that it would be a work around the limitations of Mac OSX disk burning. It doesn't seem to produce a useable product. EVERY disk I have made (all 30+ coasters) will not complete a md5 checksum; the fail with "I/O error". I dunno what I have.....
But, this us really sounding like a problem with the hard drive formatting and not the CD, but WTFDIK? I have tried using WIN 98 formatting, WIN XP formatting, and linux. (Yes, I can install RHL with no problems). I have also tried fdisk on the WIN 98 CD, and fdisk from the RHL CD, to remove all partitions. I have tried all of this on both my old and a brand new hard drive, thinking perhaps my old one was hopelessly corrupted.
None of this is working.... my next trick will be to have a friend (if I can find one =) burn the install CD on a PC for me.
Any ideas what is happening, and what to do about it?
TIA,
(humbly)
Ed
