you can log in with telnet with the user root and the password you fill in with the installation of e-smith.

or you can swith the console with ALT F2 or ALT F3 and log in as root,

Then you mus get the console ..

you can also go to http://IP_adres_of_your_e-smith_server/e-smith-manager

Thanks ronald

I am able to do the telnet but i am not getting the prompt , i am only able to c the options which i had mentioned before. And i can also log on through web
http:\ipadd-esmith\esmith-manager , this takes me to the general configuration of the system, but if i want to go /var/adm etc i am not getting any prompt how do i go to particular directory..where can i find the directory level structure.

I configured this as mail server and it is working fine but my only problem is not getting the prompt at console.

If you are at the server console, log in using the root account instead of the admin one. The passwords are the same. That gives you the prompt.

If you want a prompt from off-LAN, you should activate SSH (in the web manager) and use an SSH client. Telnet is a bad idea from a security standpoint. If you need a Windows SSH client, search these forums for "Putty", a freeware client.

All of this information is available by searching the forums.

Good luck
