PLEASE HELP!!!

We have setup a SME 5.6u4 in server-gateway mode. But we can't connect to any ftp-addresses, edonkey won't connect and neither can we connect to a terminal server.

We have tried to open several ports but nothing works. Do we need to disable the proxy on the server? If so, how do we do this?

PLEASE HELP as this is driving us nuts. The only thing that is working is browsing homepages.

Have you opened/portward all the neccassary ports for the services which you would like to use?

What's the client workstation OS?  Have you tried various clients?  My home server is 5.6 with latest updates and I haven't found anything I can't do yet.  (I don't do edonkey, though.)

The clients OS are Windows XP. This simply can't be the fact that I can't connect to any external servers except when browsing normal websites.

Hello All,

We got it working now. It seems that the portforwarding I had installed had some conflicts. I'm not sure with what, but now we can ftp, edonkey, remote desktop etc.

Thank you all for your inputs

So what did you do? Remove the portforwarding? Entirely or just for some ports?

PS. Did you set your FTP programs to use "Passive FTP" connections?

Gday,

I am using IPcop 3.0 using FTP and Edonky with no trouble at all. Havn't needed to set up anything to do with port forwarding. I am also running a Transparent Proxy config at the same time as well. IP cop is a all in one soloution for a simple gateway setup that provieds security and all the features of port forwarding, NAT, Dial-UP, Proxy and IPsec VPN's straight from a install. Best of all it takes just 10min to be up and running. The .iso image is just 25meg.

I use SME 5.5 at a few of my other customer sites however I have found that IPcop has been less trouble to set up when dealing with complex issues such as VPN's using IPsec protocol. Have a look at least. SME is a great product and I will still use it however for some people who are just worried about securing thier network they might want to have a look at IPcop as well.

Steve.
