Topic: Problems saving word files to SME server

We are experiencing problems saving MS Word files to SME 5.1.2. This is a problem that has occurred only recently: MS Word (Mac versions) either crash or refuse to save files directly to the SME server. The problem does not occur if files are saved locally. I am about to update to SME 5.6 but in the meantime has anyone any ideas?

This is almost certainly caused by confusion at the Mac over filenames expressed as UNC [\server\share\directory\file]. A similar problem occurs in the Windows domain and is solved by preventing Windows from using UNC, so that filenames become G:\directory\file where G is a mapped drive. There is a lot of discussion of problems of this kind in the Microsoft knowledge base.

Do the symptoms ever go as far as error messages? if so can you post one?
