Vtun support in SME 6.0b3
« on: August 07, 2003, 01:47:15 AM »
(Sorry for the cross post... I meant to post here but was not paying attention and first posted to the general discussion forum)

Hi has anyone had any experience in setting up vtun on an SME box?

I'm trying to establish a vpn connection from my SME box to my work. The support vtun. Any help or pointers would be appreciated.
Can I just grab the Redhat RPM's or will I break something on my box?

Thanks
Dean

(As far as I can tell)
You can use RedHat 7.3 packages with some descrimination (make sure you meet all of the requirments).
Apart form that it "SHOULD" work but you'll have to do the e-smith-config thing (structre and cut all the files to meet e-smith standards). There are how-to's for all packages in question (like if you need development packages).

Hi Hazen,
I meant to repy to you sooner, sorry...

Thanks! You were infact correct the RedHat 7.3 rpm's worked like a charm. I did have to also install liblzo1-1.06 or higher to meet dependancies. But I was able to use a an rpm from rpmfind.net for that.

I also had to add a rule to iptables to allow vtun traffic. But that was it. The Linux guru at work helped me edit the vtund.conf file and we had it up and running in minutes.

I now have a permenant tunnel from home to work. I can use VNC to view my work PC from home and vice versa...

Thanks again for your input.
