tool for internet activity monitoring

I want to be able to see real-time which client is accessing which website. Which tool can you recommend ?

Many people in the offfice spent too much time looking up non-work related webpages. I used to run midpoint ( midecore ) as a proxy under winnt. This is a nice little proxy, and it tells you which client in the office is accessing which webpage. I used to have a second monitor beside my desk, where I can monitor this. Now I changed to e-smith ( I have 2 e-smith boxes in my office ) and can no more do this. Can somebody recommend a tool / howto ? The contribs and how-to's are not very conclusive on the taks they are doing, and I do not want to isntall them just for trial purposes in order to see what they are doing.

Please somebody recommend to me

i use darg, look up contribs.org for the link, it wont really give you "live" reports, but it will tell you what each PC has loked at during the last day/month/year

Hi hdmueller,

A long time back I used a program called "Little Brother" which did all that and more (on a windows platform). Little brother have since been bought over. It is commercial and not free/share ware. I've looked for a similar product under Linux but have not found one yet.

iptraf is a monitoring tool in real time under Linux but the information screens are not as friendly as those given by Little Brother.

This may not work for your situation depending on how you are setup, and what role E-Smith plays in your organization. Where I work we have begun to migrate the webproxy duties to a product called Censornet. (http://www.censornet.com) Its a Linux based proxy server with very good reporting tools and user controls. We are still using E-Smith as an email server and will coninue to. Maybe Censornet will give you what you need. Good Luck

This is correct. If the SME server is not your internet router / gateway and you are in a switched environment, network monitoring software won't work.
