how do i allow users like win9x user to access the samba server with or without auth checking?

Do you want authentication or don't you?  There is a big difference.   By default SME doesn't allow anonymous windows network guests to access shares on the SME server.  If this is what you want to do, you'll need to create a custom template setting the "guest ok" samba option equal to yes.

What shall i do in order to allow this authentication to integrate with win9x?

What will be the security concern if we are open up the guest logon without authentication to sme server? such as the viruses issue or any other security hole because it should have a reason why the sme server is required the password checking.

By design SME is implementing general accepted security practices for file sharing. Users are required password, quotas can be set up, permisions are assigned based on the group membership, guests are not allowed to use the server.
In order to use it you just need to create accounts for your users, and on Windows 9x computers change primary logon to MS Network instead of logon to windows. Use the same name/password in windows as existing users on SME.


If your requirements are different, (home network, very few trusted users, no guests etc..) you may skip samba authentication.
Samba configured only for internal (LAN) interface, so loosing security for samba will not affect you Internet security.

I don't know where went wrong, in fact, i was tried but the win9x is failed to logon.

do i need to change the samba conf in order to implement it?

It is configured "out the box". Read the manual and make sure that workgroup setting in the server-manager matches with your windows workgroup setting. No need to manualy configure samba. It is done via server-manager then you configure workgroup, ibays or create users.
