dyndns services

Hi folks,

My e-smith 5.6 box doesn't seem to want to update the dyndns service.  I have configured it correctly, and I have an account with dyndns.org, I have double checked the login and the password.  I suspect that it might have something to do with the fact that my linux box has a satellite card for internet access.  It still uses a modem for outgoing traffic, but uses the satellite for incoming traffic.

The IP address assigned to the modem is dynamic, but dyndns is never updated to reflect this.

Any help with regard to this would be much appreciated.

Thank you

what is your home network adress (eg from your e-smith box like www.myhome.com) and what is your dyndns adress eg (http://myhome.dyndns.org) because they need to be the same, or their is a RPM that can do this manually i think

ahh, interesting.

The box is livingstone-01.livingstone.qld.edu.au, but the dyndns name is livingstone.dyndns.org.  so these are not the same, obviously.  the livingstone.qld.edu.au domain is only for mail (the provider has given us a multi-drop e-mail account for the domain, but the domain itself doesn't point to the e-smith server since it is dynamic ip, but there is no need for a web-page at livingstone.qld.edu.au anyway, so we don't care.  but admins do need to be able to log in and livingstone.dyndns.org would be perfect for that...if it would work.

So can anyone tell me what the work-around is?

Thanks heaps!

Reconfigure your box's name to be livingstone.dyndns.org OR just edit the dyndns script so that the variable is replaced with livingstone.dyndns.org
What is happening, is that you're trying to update the livingstone-01.livingstone.qld.edu.au account at dyndns.org.
It don't exist!
The instructions on how to edit the script are in the forum somewhere. Search is your friend.

Hi,

Okay, what I ended up doing was installing another client and configuring this new client for the name.  I tried a few clients as downloadable from the dyndns.org web site.  There are a few good ones there but I ended up using ipcheck.py, a python script.  simple, basic and robust.  just how I like it.

Thanks for the help.  Pity you've gotta edit the script to be able to do this...seems a bit strange.  anyway, not to worry.
