Hi Guys !

Need help on setting my ( HTTP server ) behind sme server-gateway.  Currently my web page is on sme firewall and I do want to tranfert that page to my other server built on redhat 8.0. I 'am using PPPoE and adsl Internet connection.

Local IP adress 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0
external ip         67.68.254.107/255.255.255.0
DHCP enable
Beginning DHCP 192.168.1.65
Ending DHCP      192.168.1.250

DNS 192.168.1.1

Wich to work with ip table to be able to point to sme server that my.domaine.com his on another machine in the DMZ.

I also set up a modem connection to be able to connect to a terminal screen on my server redhat.  How can I provide my self an Internet connection by dial in to my own server ?

I have a working setup for dialing into your e-smith server via a modem (POTS), and be able to access the internet (win2k ==> e-smith).

I shall have a how-to soon, and will post it.

Dear All,

May be I do suggested you guy to use "SSH" to do the same job.

I have a SME server Acting as Firewall and Web server, and a Redhat (first 8 and the upgrade to 9) that sit behind the firewall and only have a internal IP.

After I have log on to the web server (SME gateway) I can just type "ssh 192.168.0.10"  and then I can connected to the Redhat.  So why shouil I set up a modem to do the same thing ??

Well from my office work where everything's under scrunity I must dial out because SSH is blocked by our admin.

I want to dial to my server at home from my work place and then get access to Internet in graphic mode using ms explorer. Rredhat 8.0 and sme 5.6 at home.

The other way around is to built a script with http tunnel by port 80.

This will leave some traces...

With a modem nobody can find your connection.

Any suggestion ?

Paul, thanks for your advice about SSH.

There are several ways to access a server. VPN/SSH is one of them. Via a phone line (POTS)/modem is another one of them.

They might do the same job, but they sure are different means, for different needs.

So Why would you need a modem? Well, I don't know about your needs.

Why would I setup a modem? Because I need phone access to my server.

Simple.
