« on: September 19, 2003, 03:08:12 AM »
I have APC ups BackUPS-cs500 with USB cable

I just installed  apcupsd-3.10.5-1_rh7_usb.i386.rpm
I configured it and it says:

cat: /etc/redhat-release: No such file or directory
Starting UPS monitoring:apcupsd FATAL ERROR in linux-usb.c at line 614
Cannot open UPS device

ups type and cable both set tu usb everything seems to be correct.
can anyone tell me what could be wrong and how tu fix it?

I am running SME5.6U4

Please help

Try this
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dmay/mitel/contrib/apcupsd/
It works fine on my 5.6u4 and UPS APC 1500i, but I'm not exactly sure whether it supports USB.
You will have a server manager panel as well.

Cheers

I´m getting crazy to do this CS500 and BE600 run with APC UPSd... now let time past for a couple of months... they don´t work. I´m in contact with a APC guy (tech supp) and even it couldn´t do BE600 work. But it could do CS500 work.
I´ll check AGAIN with him about what to do...

I´ll let you know as soon as I got some news!

Please inform your apcupsd.conf setting. Mainly CABLE and UPS type.

Darrel May had posted SOMEWHERE that he can do it work, but he isn´t know about to be very friendly (his reason: he must earn money for work for you!).
You can search on his forum (www.ezserver.com), I asked it a question SEVERAL months ago and he never asked me!

I just found out what have to be done to enable usb ups support in SMEv5.6 :)

I installed

then you must confiure it accordingly to your system. ups type, cable etc. in apcupsd.conf file.

Next as hiddev devices are not buil automatically on 5.6 as it is based on RH7, in RH 8 it shoud work out of the box.

1. check for the presence of the device entries by 'ls /dev/usb/hid'. If the devices are built on your system you will see a number of entries like /dev/usb/hid/hid0.

 2. if necessary run (as root) /etc/apcupsd/makehiddev script to create the device entries.

3. it may also be necessary to (as root) run 'modprobe hid' to load the kernel module.

The above steps should be taken before starting apcupsd the first time.

Got my apc cs-500 to work that way:)

hope this helps
