Which Antivirus to use? ServiceLink How to?
« on: September 25, 2003, 08:24:37 PM »
I have been using RAV antivirus but since RAV no longer exists, I am looking for a antivirus solution.

I am running secure email spop3, ssmtp, over port 465 and 995,

Have anyone installed successfully any antivirus that works with secure mail
  server?

I was testing Vexira for Qmail, without any good result, I know I am missing
something in the configuration, but still, how would it scan the normal smtp
and ssmtp at the same time?

I am considering set up again the e-smith server and acquire the servicelink
service?   Would you tell me how to buy?  I understand that with this I won't
need to set secure email to give pop3 over secure way to the guys outside
the local network, and it also has antivirus, this is what I need.

Any other ideas, are always welcome,

In advance,  thanks for your help

Steve, thanks for your help,

I seems that this is exactly what I need,

I also noticed that is freeware and my concern is the quality of virus database and
how often is this updated?

I noticed that is updated frecuently, but in
http://clamav.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/sendvirus.cgi

found this,

ClamAV Virus Database
ClamAV currently detects 9656 viruses

I tried to find some recently viruses in its database and most of them were missing,

The question is, have you use ClamAV?   What is your experience with it?
Does it works as good as a commercial antivirus solution?

Regards,

Steve Brock

I have it installed on our SME server, and it has caught every current virus that has been thrown at us (knock on wood!)
It is updated regularly, which is good.  I actually plan to move to avast! when they release their linux client  (www.avast.com) that one's not free, but you might want to check out their free-for-home-use client for winbloze.  its fantastic!

Steve,  I got this Antivirus running great,  thanks for your help,

I got another question, do yo know how can I customize the
messages that Clam sends into the mails when it finds a Virus,

I refer to these ones:

Our virus checker has found potentially malicious code in a mail from
ricardo@creasys.com addressed to you. Delivery has been stopped. For further
questions, please contact antivirus@quick-photo.com.

The message has been quarantined as 3f74e2ab-7828.

CLAMD found:
 Eicar-Test-Signature

Thanks Again for your help,  I really Appreciated

Hello,

I've seen a talk about clam ;) so I also use it in my office with SME 5.6.
Working well, auto-update... so great for a free AV ;)
I also put a free AV on my W2K clients to complete the detection (AVG from grisoft.com), with the two AV I think I've a good completing solutions.

Thanks,

Eddy

Just a thought, I beleive that AVG have changed there policy in that only home users are allowed to use the free version.

Any company that is using AVG even the free version has to pay a licence fee. I am not sure if you are doing this anyway, but just though id let you know  just incase.

Kindest Regards

Interesting discussion.

Does anybody know on which AV solution the supported SME/MAS 6000  is based??
