SME 6.0b3 in production?
« on: September 30, 2003, 10:01:00 PM »
Hi,

Has anyone been crazy enough to try this? (Putting v6.0 in a production environment). Time is ticking by for me on rolling out a new server. There are many problems with our 5.1.2 server that 6.0 solves. (And 5.5 or 5.6 don't).

Gettting desperate....

What makes you think one would have to be crazy to run SME 6 production?

If you'd have run a search of previous posts on SME 6, you'd have found that this subject has been recently discussed:

Then do it.  SME 6b3 with applied updates is at least as stable, and likely more so, than 5.6

Derek,

The tacit deal is that we (that includes you) do the testing and in exchange we get a free OS from Mitel. That's the way open source is supposed to work. But if everybody waits for the others to do the testing and only wants to use a stable system without paying for it, there will be no incentive left for Mitel to distribute its unsupported versions. If you don't like the risk, pay for it.

Sheesh.....

This wasn't an attack on Mitel's GPL policies. Lighten up people. Can't a guy ask for advice before trying something risky?

For the record, the organization I work for has benefited greatly from this OS. We are a non-profit, registered charity that cannot afford commercial solutions whether they come from Mitel or that "other" company.

Derek,

No one's chapping on you, we are just saying it like it is.  You made the comment "has anyone been crazy enough to..."

As previously stated, installing SME 6b3 is of very little risk to you.

I do agree with Michiel.  If you want no risk, then pay for servicelink.  Taking advantage of free stuff, regardles of who it is from, always comes with a certain amount of risk.  It's up to you to decided if the risk is worth the money you are saving by not paying for the product.

I've been using 6b3 for nearly a a few weeks, and i really haven't had any problems with it. It's really good.

Plus most of the packages and RPMS I've been getting are quite good! And work like a charm.

Things I have on 6b3

Cacti -  Graphing of SNMP and other things
Sysmon -  System  Monitoring
Disk USage for Ibays/Users
MoreGroupware -  Though still testing
Twiggi - Also recently testing, but without any probs
Proxy Authentication
QOS
Review the DHCP leases
nPluse

These are the things I've been running, and I haven't had a problem with them at all.

Proxy Auth from Dr Big works a treat on 6.03b.
You can find it here =>>  http://www.drbig.co.uk/modules/mydownloads/singlefile.php?lid=22

I just installed twiggi on my 6.0beta3 and I cannot get past the logon.  Can you point me to a how-to or something so I can get this running?

Thanks

Boris

Check the clock on he client machine -if it is not "in sync" with the server twiggi will throw you back to the logon
