Is it possible to have 2 IPs in the red NIC
« on: October 01, 2003, 07:09:22 PM »
I would like to have 2 IPs on the red NIC of my SME 5.6 box
and use on it the PPTP server and the portforwarding contribs.

I wonder if you would recomend such a setup or rather
recommend to stay with my 1 IP config.

(sorry for my english mistakes)

Hi,

You may be able to do this.
Do a search for 2 IPs.
Here's what I found.

This has been discussed - and it can be done. But. The bigger problem than just getting the reference to the 2nd IP into the system, is actually USING it.

SME is just not setup to deal with two external IP addresses. For web stuff, email, ftp etc. it will not make use of the 2nd IP address without significant hacking about in the core of the templating system.

And there's also the firewall issue. You would have to add appropriate rules for the second IP into the Iptables firewall manually, again because  the SME isn't prepared for it.
